  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  5. Mix in sour cream, followed by the flour mixture until just combined.
  6. Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  7. If using, sprinkle chopped nuts on top of the batter.
  8. Pour the remaining batter on top and smooth the surface.
  9. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Let cool before serving.

Notes

  • Best served warm with a drizzle of icing.
