Healthy Baked Chicken Parmesan

A lighter take on the traditional chicken parmesan that retains all the flavor without the extra calories.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine whole wheat breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  3. Brush each chicken breast with olive oil, then coat in the breadcrumb mixture.
  4. Place the coated chicken breasts in a baking dish and bake for 20 minutes.
  5. Remove from the oven, pour marinara sauce over the chicken, and top with mozzarella cheese.
  6. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • For added flavor, marinate the chicken in olive oil and herbs for a few hours before baking.
  • Substitute gluten-free breadcrumbs for a gluten-free version.
