Moong Dal Chilla | Savory Lentil Pancakes

Moong Dal Chilla are delicious savory pancakes made from moong dal, perfect for breakfast or a light meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup moong dal
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 cup water (adjust as needed)
  • 2 tablespoons oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. Soak the moong dal in water for 4-6 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain the dal and blend it with turmeric, cumin seeds, red chili powder, and water to make a smooth batter.
  3. Add chopped green chili and cilantro to the batter and mix well.
  4. Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and drizzle a bit of oil.
  5. Pour a ladleful of the batter into the pan and spread it into a thin circle.
  6. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until the edges start to lift, then flip and cook for another 2 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Repeat with the remaining batter, adding more oil as needed.
  8. Serve hot with chutney or yogurt.

Notes

  • Make sure the batter is not too thick; add more water if needed.
  • You can add grated vegetables like zucchini or carrots for extra nutrition.
